Chennai is bracing for traffic diversions and heightened security as the MA Chidambaram Stadium hosts the IPL face-off between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) today. The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have issued special advisories, with diversions in force from 5 pm to 11 pm, anticipating heavy crowds for the 7.30 pm match.

Car pass holders must use only designated parking areas. Those without passes are advised to approach via Cathedral Road, R.K. Salai and Kamarajar Salai, parking along Marina Beach Service Road and entering the stadium through pedestrian subways. Taxis and autos should drop fans near the stadium via Anna Salai and Wallajah Road, then move to Sivananda Salai for parking. Buses are barred from Wallajah Road, with alternative drop-off at Swamy Sivananda Salai.

Authorities urge fans to use public transport. Metro rides are free for ticket holders between select stations and the Government Estate Metro Station, with the last train at 1 am. Southern Railway is running special trains for the event.

Police have arrested five people for selling tickets on the black market at inflated prices and warn of continued surveillance throughout the IPL season.

On the cricketing front, CSK, led once again by MS Dhoni after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury, are desperate for a turnaround. The five-time champions have endured a tough season, languishing at the bottom of the table with just two wins from nine matches. PBKS, meanwhile, sit fifth and are keen to press home their advantage against a struggling CSK side. Conditions will be hot, with no rain expected.
