A shocking incident unfolded in a village in Odisha’s Keonjhar district after an 8-year-old girl was found next morning with her head stuck overnight between iron window grills in a school classroom, News18 reported.
Jyotsna Dehuri, Class 2 student, had attended classes at the Government Upper Primary School in Anjar under Banspal block on Thursday. But when the school ended at 4 pm, teachers and other staff of the school locked up the building without noticing she was still inside, officials were quoted by News18 as saying.
Her family searched through the night but could not trace her, the report added. To get out, Jyotsna squeezed her body through a window fitted with iron bars in her class, but her head got stuck. As per the report, she remained trapped in that position until morning.
The next morning around 9, the school cook spotted her when he unlocked the classroom. Villagers and family members then bent the iron bars to free her. The girl was rushed to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors confirmed she was safe.
As per the report, taking serious note of the negligence, the district administration suspended acting headmaster Gourahari Mahanta. The School and Mass Education Department was quoted as saying that the child was now fine and receiving medical attention.
