In a dramatic incident in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, a Class 12 student was rescued by villagers after a dramatic 20-kilometer chase following her kidnapping in broad daylight. The incident, captured on CCTV, took place near the Gandhwani bus stand, leaving the town in panic and disbelief, NDTV reported.
According to witnesses, a Mahindra Bolero suddenly stopped next to the girl, who was standing near an ATM. Three men stepped out of the vehicle, gagged her, and forcibly dragged her inside before speeding off. Witnesses quickly alerted villagers, who mobilized in cars and on bikes to chase the kidnappers' vehicle.
As the kidnappers' vehicle reached Ambapura Road, it was blocked, prompting the accused to ram into other vehicles in a desperate bid to escape.
The 20-kilometer chase continued through villages and fields before ending near a village when the Bolero struck a herd of goats, forcing it to a stop. The vehicle broke down after the collision.
The accused abandoned the broken-down vehicle and fled on foot. The terrified girl was left behind. Villagers alerted the police, who arrived at the scene and rescued the girl, later returning her to her family.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Mayank Awasthi was quoted by NDTV as saying that the culprits have been identified based on the survivor's statement and that multiple teams are conducting raids to arrest them.
"A case has been registered against all three accused. Multiple police teams are conducting raids to arrest them. The girl is now with her family," he said.
