A shocking case of corporal punishment has emerged from a private school in Chhattisgarh, where two women teachers allegedly tied a four-year-old pupil with a rope and hung him from a tree for failing to complete his homework.

The incident, which took place on Monday at Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir in Narayanpur village, Surajpur, sparked widespread outrage after a video recorded by a bystander went viral on social media. The footage shows the young child suspended from a tree within the school premises as the teachers, identified as Kajal Sahu and Anuradha Dewangan, look on.

The teachers reportedly tried to prevent the recording of the incident. The visual evidence, however, circulated rapidly, drawing condemnation from local residents and prompting an urgent investigation by the education department.

The child’s family confirmed the brutality. Santosh Sahu, a relative, questioned the school's environment, stating, “If a child is punished like this for homework, what else can happen in this school?” The child’s father, Santosh Kumar Sahu, has made serious allegations against the staff and is preparing to lodge a formal police complaint, demanding an FIR and stringent action.

While officials confirmed the child is now physically safe, concerns over profound mental trauma and student safety have been raised by parents.

Authorities have acted swiftly in the wake of the public fury. According to TOI, Sankul-in-charge Manoj Yadav conducted an on-the-spot inspection and submitted a detailed report to senior district officials. He admitted the teachers' actions were "completely wrong," a sentiment echoed by the school management, which issued a public apology and called the event a "serious lapse."

In a statement to NDTV, one of the accused teachers conceded, “Yes, I made a mistake... This is the first time. I didn't do it intentionally.”

While the child has been reported physically unharmed, the family and authorities fear the psychological impact of the ordeal could be severe. The child's father, Santosh Kumar Sahu, has levied serious allegations against the staff and management of Hans Vahini Vidya Mandir and is demanding the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) and stringent punitive measures.

Although the government has initiated a probe, there is growing public pressure for swift and decisive action to serve as a deterrent and prevent any recurrence of such brutality. The District Education Officer, Ajay Mishra, confirmed his office has been notified and the Block Education Officer, DS Lakra, was dispatched to the school for a ground-level inquiry.
