People in Chennai woke up to heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on Friday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms across parts of Tamil Nadu today, The Times of India reported.
As per the report, an ‘orange’ alert was issued for Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu and Cuddalore.
In Chennai and surrounding districts, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) warned of “moderate-intense thunderstorms”, while Cuddalore is expected to see thunderstorms at isolated locations, the report added. Egmore, Nungambakkam, Guindy, and Marina Beach in Chennai also experienced showers.
