A 22-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death during a heated argument in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur on Tuesday afternoon. Police said the fight broke out after the man blocked her number and stopped communicating with her, which led to rising tension between the two.
The victim, Kamta Prasad Suryavanshi, aged 25, was living in a rented house in Bilaspur and worked at a local hotel. According to police, he met the accused, Roshni Suryavanshi, on Instagram about six months ago. Their online interaction later turned into a relationship.
Police said that in the last two to three days before the incident, Kamta had stopped talking to Roshni and blocked her calls and messages. This allegedly upset her, and she began suspecting that he was involved with another woman. She went to his house carrying a knife to confront him on Tuesday.
Officials said that when Kamta opened the door, Roshni asked him to hand over his mobile phone. "The woman came to the victim's room with a knife and demanded his phone. During the struggle, she stabbed him in the chest, causing instant death," Police officer Summat Sahu was quoted by NDTV as saying.
Kamta’s roommate, who heard loud voices from the room, rushed to check what was happening. He found Kamta lying on the floor, bleeding heavily from his chest. The injured man was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Sahu said the woman was arrested shortly after the incident and a case of murder has been registered against her. He said preliminary investigation suggests that the stabbing happened during a struggle after she demanded the phone.
According to the police, Kamta was the nephew of Rajesh Suryavanshi, a BJP leader and district panchayat president. The accused allegedly told police that she had brought the knife only to scare him, not to kill him. However, investigators are examining her intent, the nature of their relationship, and the events that led to the stabbing.
