A 35-year-old woman was gang-raped and robbed in a friend’s house in southeast Bengaluru, with the attackers stealing cash, electronics and even arranging a goods vehicle to haul away stolen appliances.
Police arrested four men - Shashi Kumar (24), Kenche Gowda (26), Raghu alias Appu (23) and Madesh (27) - within two days of the late-night assault, according to a TNIE report.
The survivor, in her police complaint, said she was visiting her friend Nagesh’s home in Doddanagamangala when another friend, Raghu, arrived with three others. The group forced their way in, accusing the woman and her friend of involvement in the flesh trade. “They threatened to take us to the police station,” she stated, as per a TOI report.
The gang then raped the woman and assaulted Nagesh when he tried to intervene. They forced the victims to transfer money, Rs 12,000 from the woman and Rs 8,000 from Nagesh, to an online gaming account, as per TNIE. When no more cash was available, they loaded a refrigerator, washing machine, LED TV and two mobile phones into a mini-goods vehicle before fleeing.
Police acted swiftly, using CCTV footage to track down the accused, all blue-collar workers in the city. Raghu, reportedly facing financial struggles, had planned to rob Nagesh and the woman, as per TNIE. The four have been charged with gang rape robbery and criminal intimidation. They will be produced in court on Thursday, with further investigations underway.
