Bengaluru is bracing for persistent rain and thundershowers through the rest of the week, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues fresh forecasts warning of continued wet weather across Karnataka’s capital and its surrounds, Live Mint reported.
A resurgence of the southwest monsoon on Monday evening triggered heavy showers in Bengaluru and much of the state, prompting the IMD to issue a series of advisories for both the city and key districts.
Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Davangere, Koppal, Bagalkot and Belgaum are among the areas expected to bear the brunt of the downpours, according to Live Mint’s report.
The IMD has labelled Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Gadag, Dharwad, Chikkamagaluru and Belagavi under an orange alert, signalling the risk of heavy to weighty rainfall in these zones.
Simultaneously, the North Interior Karnataka belt, including Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar, Dharwad, Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir, is under a yellow alert today and tomorrow, with isolated heavy spells and gusty winds on the cards, Live Mint highlighted.
Despite the active monsoon phase, Bengaluru’s weather is forecast to remain relatively stable, with daytime highs near 29 degree Celsius and lows around 20 degree Celsius for the coming week.
Humidity is expected to fluctuate between 65% and 85%, ensuring a cool, damp climate, while cloud cover and moderate rainfall are likely to persist for most of the week.
The IMD has not issued any severe weather warnings for Bengaluru itself, keeping the city on a low-risk footing for now, although minor intensifications in rainfall could develop as the weekend approaches.
However, rainfall has already had a direct impact on the city’s infrastructure. On Tuesday, heavy showers disrupted flight operations at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).
An IndiGo flight originating from Delhi was diverted to Coimbatore due to adverse weather conditions, but was able to resume its journey, arriving at Bengaluru after a delay of about 90 minutes.
Three outbound flights also experienced brief delays. By 5.30 pm the same day, KIA had recorded 54.5 mm of rain, as confirmed by IMD data cited by Live Mint.
