A 41-year-old software engineer in Bengaluru died tragically on Saturday after being bitten by a snake that had coiled inside his footwear, according to a report by The Indian Express.
The deceased, Manju Prakash, an employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and a resident of Ranganatha Layout in Bannerghatta, returned home around 12.45 pm after visiting a sugarcane shop. He was wearing a pair of Crocs sandals, which he left outside his room before going inside to rest.
The grim discovery was made nearly an hour later when a labourer visiting the house noticed a dead snake lying next to the footwear.
Family members, suspecting the reptile may have been inside the sandals, immediately rushed to check on Prakash. They found him lying on his bed unresponsive, with foam around his mouth and a bleeding leg.
He was swiftly transported to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The snake, which is believed to have bitten Prakash as he put on his shoes, was later found to have died of suffocation inside the footwear, a family member was cited by The Indian Express.
A poignant detail reported by The Indian Express suggests Prakash may not have felt the initial bite. Relatives indicated that he had lost sensation in his leg following a bus accident in 2016, for which he had undergone surgery. The pre-existing numbness in his limb likely meant he was unaware of the venomous strike.
The victim’s brother recounted the sequence of events, as per The Indian Express, stating, “On returning home, Prakash went to his room and slept. After nearly an hour, a labourer who visited our house noticed a snake just outside the pair of Crocs. Upon checking, it was found that the snake was dead.”
