Bengaluru’s sunset stuns residents; IMD forecasts mild rain and cloudy charm ahead

After weeks of intermittent October showers and the chaos they often unleash on Bengaluru's roads, Thursday’s drizzle is expected to be mild, a gentle transition into the cooler days of November.

From terrace tops to office balconies, residents across the metropolis stopped mid-scroll, mid-call, mid-complaint — united, for once, in quiet awe.

A city more often in the headlines for its gridlocked traffic and cratered roads found itself looking heavenward on Wednesday evening, as Bengaluru’s skies erupted in a spectacular display of orange, pink and gold.

From terrace tops to office balconies, residents across the metropolis stopped mid-scroll, mid-call, mid-complaint — united, for once, in quiet awe. Within minutes, social media platforms were awash with photographs that looked more like oil paintings than smartphone captures.

“The antidote to all our Bangalore complaints,” one user wrote on X, as timelines filled with radiant skies and wistful captions.

“Bengaluru skies this evening! Nobody can beat God's canvas,” posted another. Some added a touch of the city’s trademark humour. “Where is 3i Atlas? Probably in a celestial traffic jam in Indiranagar,” quipped a resident, while another declared: “Saw from my kitchen, BAWLEDDDD.”

For a few fleeting moments, the Garden City seemed to live up to its name — washed in pinks, peace and pause.

If Wednesday’s sunset was a performance, Thursday brings the encore in softer tones. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru is set for light to moderate rainfall through the day, with cloudy skies and cool, breezy conditions.

The city woke to a mild 21 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning, with temperatures expected to peak at a comfortable 26 degrees Celsius. The IMD noted that the overcast conditions would help maintain a pleasant atmosphere across most parts of the city. Sunset, fittingly, is forecast for 6:09 pm — perhaps promising another golden hour worth watching.

Humidity levels are likely to remain between 70% and 79%, while the gentle southwesterly winds could bring sporadic showers. “Rain and cloudy skies will keep temperatures mild and comfortable,” an IMD official said, adding that no major weather warnings were currently in place.

While Bengaluru settles into its early winter rhythm, coastal Karnataka can expect heavier rain through the week, with the weather department issuing alerts for isolated downpours in Mangaluru and Udupi districts.

After weeks of intermittent October showers and the chaos they often unleash on the city’s roads, Thursday’s drizzle is expected to be mild, a gentle transition into the cooler days of November.

For a city that spends much of its time under construction dust and civic frustration, Wednesday’s sky offered a rare reminder, as one user aptly summed it up online, “When heavens smile, Bengaluru looks almost perfect.”
