Bengaluru will see a major road revamp with the Karnataka government allocating Rs 1,100 crore for repairs and new road works.

Bengaluru is set to see a big change in its road network with an investment of Rs 1,100 crore for repairing and building roads, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Sunday.

DK Shivakumar tweets government’s big road plan

In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Shivakumar said the government wants every constituency to benefit from this decision. Under the plan, Rs 50 crore will be given to each of 14 assembly constituencies, while the rest of the constituencies will get Rs 25 crore each. The money will be used for repairing damaged stretches and laying down new roads.

Bengaluru’s road woes

Commuters speak out

- Many call potholes “death traps”, citing safety and stress.

- A resident said, “Nobody wants to drive on pothole-ridden roads.”

- Judicial Layout, in South Bengaluru, is one of the worst-hit localities, despite being home to judges, IAS officers, and senior officials.

Children raise their voice

- The problem has even reached schoolchildren, who are writing poems to the PMO asking for safer roads.

- Dust, repeated digging, and craters have made commuting risky in several areas.

Viral video by schoolgirls

- A video shared by Times Now went viral showing schoolgirls in a bus highlighting the city’s road problems.

- In the one-minute clip, the children explained how potholes:

# Delay their travel.

# Leave them stuck in traffic.

# Affect their studies.

# One girl pleaded: “Something has to change. Please help us. This cannot be the new normal.”
