Starting Wednesday, train frequency on Yellow Line is set to improve as Namma Metro will induct a fourth trainset into revenue service. From today, trains on the newly launched corridor will run every 19 minutes instead of every 25 minutes on all days of the week.
With the introduction of the fourth train, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced revised operational timings for the Yellow Line. As per new timings, the services will now begin earlier at 6 am, instead of the previous 6.30 am, from Monday to Saturday.
Sunday services will continue to commence at 7 am as usual. The closing hours remain the same, the last train from RV Road will leave at 11.55 pm, while the final service from Bommasandra will depart at 10.42 pm.
The Yellow Line, which stretches 19.15 km from RV Road to Bommasandra through the Electronics City corridor, was inaugurated on August 11. Since opening, the line has been carrying between 60,000 and 80,000 passengers daily on average, much higher than the BMRCL’s initial estimate of 25,000 to 30,000 riders. Until now, only three train sets were operating on the route.
A senior BMRCL official was quoted by TOI as saying that the fourth train was introduced after completing the mandatory 750 km of trial runs earlier this week.
"September 10 was the deadline for deploying a fourth train. To meet the mandatory 750 km mainline operations (for service induction), we conducted trial runs on Monday and Tuesday,” TOI quoted the official as saying.
The new addition is expected to reduce crowding, especially at RV Road station, which has been experiencing heavy rush during peak hours. The official also stated that efforts are being made to bring more trains into service soon to further ease passenger movement.
