A 19-year-old woman was allegedly raped near KR Puram railway station in Bengaluru at around 1.30 am on April 2, police said on Thursday.

The victim, hailing from Bihar, had been working in Kerala’s Kattappan town. According to the police, she was returning to her hometown in Bihar, as she was unhappy with her current job.

Before reaching KR Puram railway station, the victim called her cousin, who came to pick her up. She arrived at the station around 1:13 am. While walking toward Mahadevapura with her cousin to get food, they were approached by two unidentified men. One suspect allegedly attacked and restrained the woman’s brother while the second suspect allegedly dragged the victim to an isolated area and assaulted her.

According to a statement released by the police, two auto-rickshaw drivers, Asif and Syed, assaulted the woman’s brother and then dragged the woman a short distance away and sexually assaulted her.

The local residents heard the woman's cries for help and managed to apprehend one of the suspects, who was later handed over to the police.

According to authorities, Mahadevapura police officers, who were on night patrol, arrested the two auto-rickshaw drivers at the scene. A case has been filed at the Mahadevapura Police Station.

The two accused, Asif and Syed, are residents of Mulabagilu, a town in Karnataka’s Kolar. Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police stated that Asif sexually assaulted the woman while Syed allegedly restrained the victim’s brother.
