Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Siddharth Kaushal on Wednesday voluntarily stepped down from service, bringing to a close a career spanning over 13 years in Andhra Pradesh’s law enforcement, NDTV reported.

His resignation has sparked considerable speculation, however, the officer officially clarified that it is a personal and independent decision.

In an official press statement, Kaushal stated, "I have tendered my voluntary resignation from the Indian Police Service - a decision made on purely personal grounds after deep personal reflection. It is a step taken in alignment with my long-term life goals and the wishes of my family members.”

"Recently, certain reports have attempted to falsely link my resignation to alleged harassment or external pressure. I wish to state unequivocally that such claims are completely baseless and misleading. My decision is entirely independent, personal, and voluntary," the officer added.

A 2012-batch IPS officer, Kaushal has served in several key roles, including Superintendent of Police in Krishna and Prakasam districts, and most recently, as Inspector General (Law & Order) in Andhra Pradesh. Reflecting on his career, he said serving in the IPS has been the "most fulfilling and enriching journey of my life.”

"This state has always been my home, and its people will stay in my heart with deep affection and pride," he further said.

Although he denied reports of harassment, NDTV reported citing sources that the resignation indicates a larger pattern of discontent among IPS officers in the state, who have been facing pressure, delayed postings, abrupt suspensions, and frequent transfers, affecting morale within the service.

As per the report, Kaushal is likely to make a transition into the private sector, possibly taking up a corporate role based in Delhi.

"As I move forward, I do so with gratitude, purpose, and clarity, looking to contribute to society in new and meaningful ways in the years to come," he concluded.
