Heavy monsoon rainfall has caused significant disruption to air and road travel in India’s capital, Delhi and its financial hub, Mumbai, prompting major airlines to issue travel advisories.

As reported by Live Mint, carriers including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet and Akasa Air have all warned passengers of potential delays and advised them to check their flight status before heading to the airport. The primary concerns are air traffic disruptions caused by the continuous rain and severe congestion on waterlogged roads leading to the airports.

IndiGo Airlines took to social media platform X to alert passengers in both cities. For Mumbai, the airline stated that the continuous rainfall was affecting air traffic, leading to minor delays in flight operations. It advised travellers to check their flight status on its website or app before departing for the airport.

In a separate post concerning Delhi, Live Mint reported that IndiGo highlighted that the day's downpour had resulted in several roads across the city being blocked or experiencing extremely slow movement. The airline urged passengers to allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes if possible.

Air India also issued a specific advisory for Delhi, warning that rain may impact flight operations to and from the city. The carrier directed passengers to its online flight status page and emphasised the need to allow extra time for their journey to the airport.

SpiceJet warned that all departures, arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected due to the bad weather in Mumbai. It similarly asked passengers to keep a check on their flight status via its website.

Akasa Air issued a unified advisory for both metropolitan centres, anticipating slow-moving traffic and congestion on roads leading to the airports. The airline requested travellers to plan for additional time to ensure they reach the airport well in time for their flights.

Across the board, airlines have assured customers that their teams are working with air traffic control to minimise disruptions and have thanked passengers for their patience during the adverse weather conditions. The consensus advice for all travellers is to verify their flight's status online and to allocate significantly more time for the journey to the airport.
