Residents of Delhi and the surrounding NCR region can expect some relief from the scorching heat, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall for the remaining days of July. The weather department has forecast rain from Monday to Wednesday, followed by scattered light showers on Thursday. Though no colour-coded warnings have been issued so far, the conditions are likely to remain wet and cloudy through the week, The Times of India reported.

According to Mahesh Palawat, vice-president of Skymet Meteorology, a well-marked low-pressure system that had formed over northwest Madhya Pradesh has now weakened and is moving towards northeast Rajasthan and the northern parts of Madhya Pradesh.

“The well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh is moving towards east Rajasthan and has weakened into a low-pressure area. It will change direction towards the northeast and will reach northeast Rajasthan and adjoining north Madhya Pradesh by Monday. An excess of the monsoon trough will also be just south of Delhi. The Western disturbance is over Jammu Kashmir," TOI quoted Palawat as saying.

On Sunday, the national record showed no rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, and the country continued to reel under high temperatures and humidity. The maximum temperature reached 37.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 28.8 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity ranged between 59 per cent and 87 per cent, making the day uncomfortable. The Heat Index or ‘feels like’ temperature, peaked at a sweltering 48.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday evening.

On Monday, Delhi is expected to see a slight drop in temperature. The maximum is likely to be around 35 degrees Celsius, and the minimum may hover between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius.

Neighbouring NCR cities like Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram are also expected to receive light to moderate rainfall with chances of thunderstorms and lightning, the weather department said.

This weather pattern is likely to continue throughout the week, till at least Saturday, August 2, 2025. The IMD has also ruled out any chances of a heatwave in the coming days.

Elsewhere in India, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on Monday in parts of East Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, coastal Karnataka, and some northeastern states including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and the states of Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura. Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh, and South Interior Karnataka may also experience significant rainfall.
