President Murmu hails tax reforms by government in joint Parliament address

Senior Citizens above the age of 75 years who only gets pension are given the power to take self-decision in respect of filing Income Tax Return, says President.

President Droupadi Murmu addressed both Houses of Parliament, marking the beginning of the Budget Session.

President Droupadi Murmu kicked off the first day of the Budget session in the Parliament on Friday by hailing the growing Indian economy and government’s progress in passing reforms.

For senior citizens, she highlighted an expansion of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme. "Senior Citizens above the age of 75 years who only gets pension are given power to take self decision in respect of filing Income Tax Return (ITR)," said Murmu.

She also said the Centre has introduced "faceless evaluation" to increase transperency in order to prevent tax disputes. She also said that India will soon become the third largest economy in the world.
