The government has increased the allocation under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme to Rs 63,500 crore for FY26, up 5.8 percent, from budgeted Rs 60,000 crore in 2024-25 provided to eligible farmer families.
The Union Budget 2025 proposal is expected to enhance rural income as well as consumption, which has been slowing affecting the overall economy.
Under PM-KISAN, Rs 6,000 is directly transferred to beneficiaries account in a year in three equal installments every four months. The scheme, launched on February 24, 2019, aims to provide financial assistance to landholding farmers, enabling them to purchase agricultural inputs and meet household expenses.
The programme is a central initiative designed to support all landholding farmer families across the country. The assistance is provided without any age restriction, ensuring that both small and marginal farmers benefit.
To qualify for the scheme, the beneficiaries should own cultivable land, with the ownership recorded in official land records.
The scheme define "family" as husband, wife and their minor children. Farmers are eligible regardless of the size of their landholding, provided they meet the income-based exclusion criteria.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi disbursed 18th installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi worth about Rs 20,000 crore to around 9.4 crore farmers in October. With the 18th instalment release, the total disbursement under the scheme has exceeded Rs 3.45 lakh crore, supporting more than 11 crore farmers.
