SUVs continue to dominate as 5 models feature among top 10 selling cars in India in July

The SUV wave in India's automotive market shows no sign of slowing down, with sport utility vehicles continuing to assert their dominance in July 2025. According to industry sales data, five SUVs made it to the list of the 10 largest-selling cars in the country, reflecting evolving consumer preferences.

Although the Maruti Suzuki Dzire sedan remained India's best-selling car in July, with 20,895 units sold, SUVs were not far behind. The Hyundai Creta led the SUV charge, securing the second spot overall with 16,898 units. The Creta's strong sales can be attributed to its wide range of variants, premium features and established reputation in the mid-size SUV segment.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza continued to perform strongly, registering sales of 14,065 units and reinforcing its position as a favourite among compact SUV buyers. Maruti Suzuki also found success with the Fronx, its newest entrant in the crossover SUV category, which sold 12,872 units and showcased robust demand from urban and younger customers. The Mahindra Scorpio, another stalwart in the SUV segment, posted 13,747 units, while the Tata Nexon, well-regarded for its safety features and electric options, achieved 12,826 units, rounding out the SUV contingent in the top ten.

Apart from SUVs, other body styles also maintained a firm presence. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV claimed third place with 16,604 units, underlining the steady demand for versatile family vehicles. Hatchbacks continued to be popular as well, with the WagonR (14,710 units), Swift (14,190 units), and Baleno (12,503 units) all featuring among the top sellers. These models remain favourites among urban buyers for their practicality, fuel efficiency and affordability.
