In a bid to revive the domestic sedan market, Maruti Suzuki has rolled out the all-new Dzire, which is priced between Rs 6.79 lakh and Rs 10.14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The bookings are already underway, and deliveries for Dzire will commence in the coming weeks, the company said.
The entry-level sedan will be taking on Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, and others in the sub four-metre category, and will be sold in four variants namely LXI, VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+. The fourth-generation Dzire will initially be available in petrol version, followed by a CNG option.
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, "The all-new Dzire resonates with the aspirations of today’s ambitious and successful individuals," adding that “while the SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) segment has been growing, other segments are also important to the company in order to maintain high marketshare”.
Based on the new Swift platform, the new Dzire will be equipped with a new Z-Series three-cylinder 1.2 litre petrol engine, paired to either a five-speed manual or automatic transmission. The new model comes with an idle start/stop system. Maruti Suzuki claims a mileage of 24.79 kmpl with a manual gearbox and 25.71 kmpl with the AMT box for the new Dzire. The CNG variant, which will be launched in due course, will offer 33.73 km/kg of mileage.
Takeuchi stated that the Dzire has been a “global success” for the automaker with around 30 lakh units delivered worldwide out of which 90 percent have been sold in the domestic market. “Dzire is also one of topselling models in export markets and that includes markets in Latin America, South East Asia, Africa and Middle East,” added the MD of Maruti Suzuki.
Equipped with several safety features, including six airbags, ESP, hill hold assist, ABS with EBD and brake assist, TPMS, ISOFIX, and a rear defogger, the new Dzire was recently awarded a five-star safety rating by Global NCAP. It also comes with a three-spoke steering along with a conventional twin-dial instrument cluster, apart from wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, rear AC vents, an electric sunroof, and a 360-degree camera, etc.
“The all-new Dzire is a testament of our relentless pursuit to offer experiences that are specially tailored for the young, ambitious, ‘Thriver’ who makes a statement with distinct choices,” said Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, while unveiling the model.
However, he clarified that the company doesn’t foresee a huge order backlog that it had witnessed for Dzire's first generation (launched in 2008). To a query asked on the sales split of personal and shared mobility segments, he clarified, “Our New Dzire will be sold only in the personal mobility segment. The previous generation, which will be sold as Dzire Tour, will be catering to fleet operators.”
At present, Maruti Suzuki has 40 percent market share (wholesales) in the overall domestic passenger vehicle segment. In terms of retail sales, the company posted its highest-ever performance in October with 2.02 lakh units.
