Tata Motors-owned luxury car brand, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), will reportedly start the local assembly of its vehicles, like the Range Rover Evoque SUV and the Range Rover Velar SUV, in Tamil Nadu from early 2026.
The JLR vehicles will be manufactured from completely knocked down (CKD) kits at Tata's production facility in Ranipet, Tamil Nadu.
The homegrown auto major is planning to invest Rs 9,000 crore in the Ranipet facility, which will produce next-generation vehicles of both Tata and JLR.
While production at the Ranipet unit will commence in a phased manner, it is expected to increase to reach its full capacity of more than 250,000 units annually over the next five to seven years.
JLR's operations at the Ranipet facility are set to commence with the production of models such as the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Velar, as reported by The Economic Times.
JLR has been locally manufacturing cars from CKD kits in India since 2011. Apart from the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Velar, the flagship SUVs like the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport are locally manufactured at the Tata factory in Pune, Maharashtra, now.
Eventually, the JLR operations will move from the Pune facility to the Ranipet unit, said PB Balaji, Group Chief Financial Officer, Tata Motors.
