JSW MG Motor India sold 61,171 units of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country in CY25. Its total wholesales, including from internal combustion engine (ICE) models, came in at 70,554 units during the year.

The importance of the Windsor for JSW MG can be gauged from the fact that it made up 76.4% of the EV wholesales and 66.24% of the total wholesales (EV + ICE) for the carmaker in CY25.

The Windsor was launched in India in September CY24 with sales starting in October CY24. In merely three months during the year, the EV sold over 10,000 units, and continued its impressive performance in CY25.

Apart from Windsor, JSW MG sells EVs like the Comet, ZS, M9 and Cyberster. Its ICE portfolio includes the Astor, Hector and Gloster.

Although the electric car segment is growing in India, it is still in a nascent phase. For reference, the sales jumped from 1.10 lakh units in CY24 to 2 lakh units in CY25. However, their share in the total passenger vehicle (PV) volumes was merely 4.4% in CY25 as against 2.6% in CY24.

Regarding the MG Windsor, industry experts told Moneycontrol that the five-seater EV is positioned as a practical, family-focussed offering, with its popularity driven mainly by value and practicality.

"The Windsor's pricing, especially with the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, lowers the entry barrier to EV ownership. The car offers a spacious cabin, flat floor and comfortable rear seating, which appeals to family buyers. Feature content is strong for the price, including a large touchscreen, connected tech and ADAS on higher variants. Real-world range is adequate for daily urban use," one of the experts said.

The Windsor is priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 18.39 lakh (ex-showroom). With the BaaS option, there is a significant reduction in the upfront acquisition cost, which comes down to Rs 9.99 lakh plus a battery rental of Rs 3.9 per km.

The EV employs a front axle-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous motor, which delivers 136PS of maximum power and 200Nm of peak torque. There are two battery packs on offer -- 37.9kWh and 52.9kWh -- with an ARAI-certified range of 332km for the former and 449km for the latter.

Besides, the Windsor has a unique design, based on what JSW MG calls 'AeroGlide' theme. Its cabin comes equipped with features like 135-degree reclinable seats and a 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment.
