Major automakers have announced significant price cuts across their model line-ups following the government’s decision to rationalise GST rates on automobiles. Customers can now expect savings ranging from Rs 60,000 on entry-level cars to over Rs 3 lakh on premium SUVs. Kia and Maruti Suzuki are likely to announce the price cut soon, joining the group of automakers that have already announced revised prices after the rationalisation of Goods and Services Tax(GST) by the government on 3 September.
The automakers announced the price cut after the GST Council had approved a major overhaul of automobile tax rates, with the new structure set to come into effect from September 22, coinciding with the start of Navaratri.
Following the government’s GST rate rationalisation for automobiles, major carmakers including Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, and Toyota have announced substantial price cuts across their model line-ups.
Tata Motors
Tata Motors on Friday said its entry-level hatchback Tiago will become cheaper by Rs 75,000, while the compact sedan Tigor will see a reduction of Rs 80,000. The Altroz will witness the steepest cut among its small cars, with prices lowered by Rs 1.10 lakh. Among SUVs, the Punch will be cheaper by Rs 85,000 and the Nexon by Rs 1.55 lakh.
The newly launched Curvv will see a cut of Rs 65,000, while the premium models Harrier and Safari will become cheaper by Rs 1.40 lakh and Rs 1.45 lakh respectively.
Mahindra and Mahindra
Mahindra & Mahindra has rolled out price cuts across its SUV range, with reductions varying by model and variant. The Bolero and Bolero Neo will be cheaper by up to Rs 1.27 lakh. The XUV3XO Petrol sees a cut of Rs 1.40 lakh, while the XUV3XO Diesel gets the steepest reduction of Rs 1.56 lakh. Customers opting for the Thar 2WD Diesel can now save Rs 1.35 lakh, while the Thar 4WD Diesel and Scorpio Classic each see a Rs 1.01 lakh cut. The Thar Roxx is cheaper by Rs 1.33 lakh, the Scorpio-N by Rs 1.45 lakh, and the flagship XUV700 by Rs 1.43 lakh.
Toyota
Toyota has announced some of the largest reductions in the segment. The Fortuner will see a price drop of up to Rs 3.49 lakh, while the Legender follows closely with a cut of Rs 3.34 lakh. The luxury MPV Vellfire becomes more affordable by Rs 2.78 lakh, and the Hilux pickup by Rs 2.52 lakh. The Innova Crysta and Innova Hycross are cheaper by up to Rs 1.80 lakh and Rs 1.15 lakh respectively. Other popular models like the Camry see a reduction of Rs 1.01 lakh, the Glanza by Rs 85,300, and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder by Rs 65,400.
Hyundai
Hyundai has reduced prices across its hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs, with the changes coming into effect from September 22. The Grand i10 Nios is cheaper by Rs 73,808, the i20 by Rs 98,053, and the i20 N Line by Rs 1.08 lakh. Prices of the Aura and Verna have been reduced by Rs 78,465 and Rs 60,640 respectively. In the SUV segment, the Exter gets a cut of Rs 89,209, while the Venue and Venue N Line are cheaper by up to Rs 1.23 lakh. The Creta and Creta N Line have been reduced by around Rs 72,000, the Alcazar by Rs 75,376, and the premium Tucson by Rs 2.40 lakh.
Renault
Renault has passed on the GST benefits to its customers across three models. The Kwid, Triber and Kiger are all cheaper by up to Rs 96,395.

Under the revised framework, smaller vehicles will now attract 18% GST. This category includes petrol, LPG, or CNG cars with engines below 1,200 cc and up to 4,000 mm in length, as well as diesel vehicles up to 1,500 cc that fall within the 4,000 mm limit.
Larger vehicles will face a higher tax of 40%. These include petrol cars above 1,200 cc and diesel cars above 1,500 cc with lengths exceeding 4,000 mm, the Council said.
