Surya Grahan 2025: When is the First Solar Eclipse of the Year? January 9 or not? Know the Date, Time, and Details

The year 2025 will witness two solar eclipses, but none will occur in January. The first solar eclipse is set to take place on March 29, and the second one will happen on September 21–22. According to religious beliefs, solar eclipses are considered inauspicious, and performing any auspicious activities during this time is avoided. It is believed that rituals or ceremonies conducted during a solar eclipse may not yield favourable results. Let us explore the details of these two significant solar eclipses of 2025.

First Solar Eclipse of 2025

The first solar eclipse of the year will occur on March 29, 2025, during the Chaitra Krishna Paksha Amavasya (New Moon Day). This will be a partial solar eclipse (Khandgras Surya Grahan). The eclipse will begin at 2:21 PM and end by 6:14 PM IST.

Astrologically, this eclipse will occur in the Pisces zodiac sign (Meen Rashi) and Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatra. As a result, people born under this zodiac sign and nakshatra may feel its influence more prominently. However, this solar eclipse will not be visible in India, though it will be observed in several other parts of the world.

Surya Grahan 2025: Significance

A solar eclipse holds both scientific and spiritual significance. Scientifically, it is an astronomical phenomenon where the Moon partially or completely covers the Sun, reducing or completely blocking sunlight from reaching Earth. Spiritually, it is regarded as a powerful period for introspection, meditation, and performing certain rituals to negate negative energies.

Experts advise taking precautions while observing a solar eclipse. Looking at the Sun with the naked eye during an eclipse can harm your eyes. It is essential to use protective gear such as sunglasses, binoculars, or solar viewers to safely enjoy this celestial event.

The year 2025 brings two fascinating solar eclipses, the first on March 29 and the second on September 21–22, though neither will be visible in India. While these eclipses carry immense astrological and spiritual significance, they also offer a chance to witness the marvels of astronomy. Whether you are observing them scientifically or spiritually, these celestial events provide an opportunity to reflect on the wonders of the universe.
