Rohan Murty's Workfabric AI partners with Cognizant to deploy 1,000 'context engineers'

Information technology (IT) firm Cognizant, on August 29, announced a partnership with Rohan Murty-led Workfabric AI to deploy 1,000 “context engineers” over the next year, aimed at industrialising agentic AI across enterprises.

Rohan Murty is the son of Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy, Cognizant's rival in the IT services industry.

“Every technology shift creates a services shift. In the microprocessor era, the lever was code. In the cloud era, it was workload migration. In the LLM era, the lever is context,” Ravi Kumar S, CEO, Cognizant, was quoted as saying in a release. “By training 1,000 context engineers and equipping them with Workfabric AI’s ContextFabric platform, we are helping our clients move beyond experimentation toward scalable AI adoption.”

ContextFabric platform converts a company’s workflows, data, rules, and processes into actionable context for AI systems.

The Teaneck-headquartered IT services major said the move marks a significant investment in the emerging discipline of context engineering, enabling AI agents to reason, act, and adapt in alignment with enterprise goals.

Cognizant defines context as a company’s collective knowledge, from operating models, roles, and processes to governance systems and decision-making loops. Context engineering, it said, is designed to help AI agents represent enterprise knowledge, align with human intent, operate within policy frameworks, and adapt to real-time challenges.

The partnership integrates context engineering with Cognizant’s Agentic Development Lifecycle (ADLC), aiming to scale it as a foundational capability.

These engineers will be responsible for capturing enterprise knowledge, managing the context lifecycle with governance and security, building integration pipelines, and packaging reusable “context packs” for scalable deployment across industries.

He added that the platform has demonstrated up to 3x higher accuracy, 70 percent fewer hallucinations, faster deployment cycles, and improved ROI in enterprise use cases.
