New AI models drive 15-20% surge in job seeker engagement, says Naukri owner Info Edge

These models refine search intent, personalise job suggestions, and enhance resume-job match accuracy, says Info Edge CEO Hitesh Oberoi.

Info Edge, the parent company of India’s largest job portal Naukri.com, has witnessed a 15-20 percent year-on-year increase in job seeker engagement, thanks to the rollout of new artificial intelligence (AI)-powered models for job search and recommendations.

The comments assume significance after the company had earlier said that AI is delivering a 10-20 percent uplift across Info Edge platforms.

“New AI models for job search and recommendations have driven a 15-20% year-on-year improvement in job seeker engagement,” Managing Director and CEO Hitesh Oberoi said while sharing the update during its Q4FY25 earnings call.

The gains are being driven by a new generation of machine learning algorithms deployed across Naukri’s platforms. These models refine search intent, personalise job suggestions, and enhance resume-job match accuracy, according to Oberoi.

The job search platform is not an exception, similar performance improvements have been noticed in the company’s matrimonial platform, Jeevansathi.

IT Hiring Picture

While net hiring in the information technology (IT) sector remains subdued, companies continue to hire to backfill roles due to ongoing attrition. Executives noted that Naukri’s revenue is tied more closely to gross hiring, which includes replacement hiring, rather than net headcount additions.

“IT service companies, most of them are at a point where their attrition rates have stabilised, they are replacing the people who are leaving, they may not be adding a lot of headcount. But… It's a modest sort of environment, and of course, we are the cheapest way to hire,” Oberoi added.

Meanwhile, what is lost in IT is being compensated for by Global Capability Centres (GCCs).

The company said it has increased its focus on adding more GCCs and on acquiring new customers in the tier-2 and tier-3 cities, and on penetrating deeper into non-IT and other sectors.

This aligns with the broader trend of companies opening up centres beyond metros.
