The Government has finalised the new Land Acquisition Bill and will place it for consultation for one month. According to the new bill, rural and urban land acquisition norms will be different, said Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh.
In rural areas the compensation will be six times the registered sale price and it will be twice more for people in urban areas whose land is acquired. The consent of 80% of the people of the area where land is to be acquired will also become mandatory.

The new Land Acquisition Bill is also compliant with all existing laws on tribal welfare. The process of acquisition will also be made fully transparent.
