Pop star Katy Perry paused her Lifetimes world tour to join her boyfriend, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for a mid-day lunch with former Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko in Tokyo this week.
Sharing a photo from the meeting on social media, Kishida wrote, “Former Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau came to Japan with his partner Katy Perry and had lunch with us,” describing the visit as a continuation of the friendship built during Trudeau’s time in office.
Great to see you @kishida230. Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone. https://t.co/zLEuppHNST— Justin Trudeau (@JustinTrudeau) December 4, 2025
He highlighted their previous collaboration on the Japan-Canada Action Plan and noted Trudeau’s visit to the Atomic Bomb Museum during the G7 Hiroshima Summit. “I am delighted that we continue to maintain this friendship in this way,” Kishida added.
Trudeau echoed the sentiment, posting, “Katy and I were so glad to have the chance to sit down with you and Yuko. Thank you, Fumio, for your friendship and your continued commitment to both the international rules-based order and to a better future for everyone.”
For the outing, Perry wore a green two-piece with black tights, a turtleneck, and boots, placing a hand behind Trudeau as they posed with the Kishidas. Trudeau appeared in a grey suit, maintaining a formal, statesman-like appearance.
The lunch marks the first occasion Perry has accompanied Trudeau in a diplomatic setting with former political leaders. The couple publicly confirmed their relationship in late October, following multiple sightings together since July.
This meeting underscores the couple’s growing closeness while highlighting Trudeau’s ongoing diplomatic engagements, even after stepping down from office.
