Sleep timers are common on most popular music and podcast streaming apps, as it stops media playback at a chosen time or when you have fallen asleep. This is quite handy, as it allows users to drift off to sleep while music is continuously being played in the background, to manage their sleep cycle and well-being. Now, according to a new report by Android Authority via Assemble Debug, Google is set to introduce this feature on the YouTube app.
Assemble Debug has spotted this new feature while doing a teardown of the 19.25.33 version of the YouTube Android app. The sleep timer feature would enable users to set a specific duration for video playback before it automatically stops. Users can also specify hours and minutes until video playback stops, and a notification marking the change will also be visible.
If you still want to continue the video playback, then the YouTube app might allow you to reset the timer or change the playback settings. YouTube Music already offers a sleep timer and it automatically stops music playback after a specified time, which is preset by a user. Popular music streaming platform, Spotify also introduced this feature a few years ago.
The report also mentions that Google could also add an 'end of video' option to the sleep timer to automatically stop video playback when the video reaches its endpoint. It is similar to the 'end of the song' feature, already available on the YouTube Music app.
