Truecaller has launched a free voicemail feature in India, aiming to make it easier for users to avoid nuisance and spam calls without worrying about missing something important. The new feature is currently available for Android users and is built directly into the Truecaller app.

Unlike traditional voicemail services that require users to dial a separate number or remember a PIN, Truecaller’s voicemail works in a much simpler way. Messages are recorded, stored and played directly on the phone, making the entire experience faster and far less frustrating. Truecaller says users can set it up in just a few seconds, and there’s no limit on the number of voicemails they can receive.

One of the key highlights of the new voicemail service is instant AI-powered transcription. As soon as someone leaves a voicemail, the message is converted into text within seconds. This allows users to read voicemails quietly when they’re in meetings, travelling, or simply don’t want to listen to an audio message. The transcription feature supports 12 Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Gujarati, Nepali, Punjabi, Sanskrit and Urdu, making it accessible to a wide range of users across the country.

Spam and scam protection is another big focus. Since voicemail is integrated with Truecaller’s existing spam detection system, calls that are identified as spam can be automatically filtered. This means users don’t have to answer suspicious calls just to check what the caller wants — they can let the call go to voicemail and decide later whether it’s worth engaging with.
