Popular cloud-based messaging platform, Slack, is set to introduce a useful feature on its Android app, which will make checking notifications easier. Until now, on the desktop app of Slack, users could quickly mark messages as read by using keyboard shortcuts like Esc and Shift Esc or using other combinations; there was no such feature available on the mobile app. However, this appears to be changing now.
Slack to get a ‘Mark as Read’ option on Android app: Key details
As spotted by Android Authority, the option to mark messages as read via the notification panel has been unveiled on the Slack Android app. This is similar to how other popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp or Messages provide the option to mark the incoming message as already read, without the need to view them by opening the app.
Therefore, for Slack users, to have a new ‘Mark as Read' option in the phone's notification window itself makes it easier to operate the app. It will appear alongside the existing Reply option in the Slack for Android app, thus allowing you to either reply to the message or simply mark it as read.
Currently, this feature is only available for the Slack for Android app, and it’s expected to be rolled out to all users in a phased manner. Like the desktop app, we can expect more customisation options for the ‘Mark as Read’ option on the Android app in future updates.
