Perplexity’s AI chatbot on X (formerly Twitter), known as Ask Perplexity, now supports AI-generated video creation based on user prompts. The feature, which rolled out last week on the Perplexity web and other platforms, is now available via the Ask Perplexity bot on X. This also makes it the first of its kind feature for any AI chatbot to offer video generation feature on X.

That said, with the feature now available to all, users can now tag @AskPerplexity in a post or a reply and provide a text prompt to receive an AI-generated video. The bot can produce videos up to eight seconds long, which may include native audio and dialogues for multiple characters. The AI also supports image inputs along with text prompts, enabling more customised content creation.

Although the company hasn’t confirmed which large language model powers the feature, based on its functionality, it appears to be on par with leading video models like Google’s Veo 3. However, this is speculative, as no official model details were shared.

Perplexity emphasised that safety guardrails have been implemented to prevent the generation of videos that replicate real-world celebrities or public figures. Even when users prompt the AI to depict known personalities, the results usually yield generic characters bearing only a faint resemblance. Despite the ability to upload images as part of the prompt, it is unclear if that could be used to bypass the identity safeguards.
