The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has clarified that no changes have been made to Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking timings. The statement was issued in response to posts circulating on social media claiming a revision in booking hours.
“No such change in timings is currently proposed in the Tatkal or Premium Tatkal booking timings for AC or Non-AC classes,” IRCTC said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) dated April 13.
What is the right Tatkal ticket booking timing?
As per current rules, Tatkal bookings open one day before the scheduled departure of the train from its origin station.
- For AC classes (2A, 3A, CC, EC, 3E): Booking opens at 10:00 AM
- For Non-AC classes (SL, FC, 2S): Booking opens at 11:00 AM
For example, if a train departs on April 15, bookings for AC Tatkal tickets begin at 10:00 AM on April 14, and for Non-AC tickets at 11:00 AM.
The IRCTC post also clarified: “The permitted booking timings for agents also remain unchanged.” This means that authorised agents will continue to follow the existing schedule without any changes.
IRCTC urges passengers to rely on official updates
The clarification comes at a time when misinformation around Tatkal ticketing is spreading widely on social media platforms. IRCTC reminded passengers that no official communication has been made regarding any revision in booking times.
Passengers are advised to use official channels such as the IRCTC website or app for all travel and ticketing information. The Tatkal scheme continues to allow bookings for all classes except First AC, with up to four passengers per PNR and additional Tatkal charges.
