New Apple TV 4K: 4 features likely to arrive next month

Apple TV+ might be having a record-breaking year, but its streaming box, the Apple TV 4K, has not seen an update since 2022. That is about to change, with the next-generation model expected to launch soon. Here are four key features likely to arrive with the refreshed Apple TV 4K.

The current version launched in late 2022 with the A15 Bionic chip, which was modern for its time. However, Apple’s rapid progress in silicon means that the A17 Pro is now considered the baseline for supporting Apple Intelligence and newer, more demanding games. With the upgrade, Apple TV 4K could receive a notable boost in both performance and gaming capabilities.

Artificial intelligence is also set to play a role. Apple Intelligence, which started on iPhones, iPads and Macs, has since expanded to the Vision Pro and Apple Watch. It is now tipped to make its way to Apple TV 4K, though initially in a limited manner. The long-anticipated Siri overhaul next year could unlock more powerful AI functions, similar to what Amazon has already demonstrated with Alexa+ on Fire TV. Examples include mood-based recommendations, quick scene skipping using voice prompts, and identifying background music during shows.

Connectivity will also improve. Alongside Apple’s C1 and C1X modems, a new N1 wireless chip has been introduced in the latest iPhone 17 models. The N1 combines Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Thread into a single solution, and it is expected to feature in the upcoming Apple TV 4K as well. This could enhance integration with Apple’s growing range of Home accessories and provide more stable connectivity.
