Sometimes 90 seconds is not enough to express yourself. For people who want to say more or show more, Instagram will now let you post reels longer than 90 seconds. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced on the social media platform that the app will now let users post three minutes long reels.
“You can now upload reels up to three minutes long. We’ve historically only allowed reels up to 90 seconds given our focus on short-form video, but we’ve heard the feedback that this is just too short for those who want to share longer stories. Hope this helps,” Mosseri said in a blog post.
Interestingly, TikTok also allows users to post three minute long videos. Instagram’s announcement came at a time when TikTok was almost banned in the US. However, later that day, the US President-elect revised the ban on TikTok, which means the creators will not have to fret over losing their accounts. However, for creators who are not very certain about TikTok’s longevity, Instagram is proving to be a better and more reliable alternative.
TikTok has been pulled up in many countries over national security reasons. The app was banned in India in 2020. Trump, who was America’s President back then, had also threatened the Chinese company to either sell the TikTok’s US arm to a US business or face a ban. However, Trump’s stance on TikTok has now changed.
