When the term air purifier comes to mind, we often image a big block with a filter and a fan. And, that's alright considering air purifiers traditionally are designed that way. However, Atovio came with Pebble -- a wearable air purifier -- that ditches large boxes placed in bedrooms or living rooms, quietly working within defined walls. The Atovio Pebble takes a different approach. Instead of cleaning a room, it claims to clean the air around you, wherever you go. Worn like a pendant around the neck, the Pebble positions itself as a personal air purifier designed for polluted urban environments, especially Indian cities.
It costs Rs 2,999 and I used the Atovio Pebble as part of my daily routine, wearing it during commutes, at the office, and occasionally indoors, to understand what this shift from space-based to person-based purification actually means in real life.
Design and everyday comfort
The Pebble is compact, light, and small enough to sit unobtrusively on the chest. It fits easily in the palm and has a matte finish that avoids smudges. The front houses a circular LED ring that communicates power status, modes, and battery level, while charging happens over USB-C.
The device must be worn using the provided lanyard, which is not optional since it completes the circuit required for operation. While functional, the lanyard is not the most comfortable, especially with round-neck T-shirts, and feels better suited to collared clothing. Once worn for a while, however, the Pebble itself becomes easy to forget due to its light weight.
How it works in practice
The Pebble operates using ion technology, releasing anions that attach to airborne particles in the immediate breathing zone and push them away. It offers two modes — Normal and Turbo — with Turbo intended for situations where AQI levels are significantly high, something that is common in Indian metro cities.
In controlled environments, the device demonstrates measurable impact. Indoor testing shows a significant reduction in airborne pollutants within minutes, while outdoor effectiveness is lower but still present within the user’s immediate breathing space. The key distinction here is scale: the Pebble works for the person wearing it, not for the surrounding area or people nearby.
Outdoors, especially in windy conditions, the effect is harder to perceive subjectively. There is no immediate sensory feedback that confirms cleaner air, aside from the LED indicator showing that the device is active. This makes the Pebble more of a long-term, preventive device rather than one that delivers instant, noticeable relief.
Battery life and usability
Charging the Pebble takes around three hours from zero, which feels slow for a device this small. On a full charge, it lasted close to five days with daily use of a few hours, including occasional use of Turbo mode. This aligns reasonably well with claims of extended battery life in normal usage.
Maintenance is minimal. There are no filters to replace, and occasional cleaning with the provided brush is sufficient. This significantly lowers long-term ownership costs compared to conventional air purifiers.
The Atovio Pebble is not meant to replace a traditional air purifier. Its strength lies in portability and constant presence. It travels with you — in offices, malls, cars, and streets — offering a layer of protection that stationary purifiers simply cannot.
At the same time, its impact is limited to the wearer, and benefits are subtle rather than dramatic. This makes it better suited for users who want continuous exposure reduction rather than immediate, noticeable changes in air quality.
Verdict
The Atovio Pebble is a thoughtful reimagining of air purification, shifting the focus from rooms to individuals. It does not deliver instant gratification, but as a wearable, low-maintenance device aimed at reducing daily pollutant exposure, it fills a gap traditional purifiers leave behind. For users unwilling to invest in large, expensive purifiers — or those who spend significant time outdoors — the Pebble offers a practical, personal alternative rooted in everyday use rather than spectacle.
