Apple has announced a new Apple Music offering in partnership with Universal Music Group (UMG) and Sollos, named Sound Therapy. It contains a collection of songs from popular artists and blends them with waves that will help enhance a specific trigger for the listener. Moreover, these specialised songs are based on audio science, which the company claims can help you gain better sleep, relax, and focus.
Apple Music’s Sound Therapy: Here’s how it works
Sound Therapy collections are available in the Apple Music app within the ‘New’ tab. It comes with three different playlists: Focus, Relax, and Sleep. The songs are from various UMG artists, including Imagine Dragons, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, and others, which are special versions, often extended, instrumental, or rearranged to be more soothing and relaxing for a user.
Moreover, songs may include auditory beats or colored noise, sound waves where the intensity varies at different frequencies that are categorized by colors. The focus category employs gamma waves and white noise, which can filter out distractions. For relaxation, the playlist has songs including theta waves, while the sleep category utilizes delta auditory beats and ‘pink noise’ similar to sounds of rain and wind.
To access the Sound Therapy playlist, you must have an active Apple Music subscription. An Apple Music individual plan costs Rs 119 per month, while the family plan, which allows up to six family members access, costs Rs 179 per month. A special student subscription is also available for Rs 59 per month.
