As noted by 9to5Google, the main Android Auto 14.0 update comes with various bug fixes and adds basic stability improvements to Google’s in-car phone interface. Further, we get a new microphone icon, which swaps out the four-color design for a plain white one, which suggests that Google Assistant could be phased out in the near future.

This change shows a broader move to upgrade Android Auto-powered cars from Google Assistant to Gemini. However, Google has clarified that Google Assistant will remain functional on some older devices until later in the year. In the future, we can expect Gemini to work similarly to its mobile app implementation, as Gemini and Gemini Live on Android Auto will surface with a blue and purple hue at the bottom edge to respond to users’ queries and requests.
