Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has kick-started preparations for the Godavari Pushkaralu 2027, calling it the Kumbh Mela of South India. Scheduled to begin on July 23, 2027, this rare river festival occurs once every 12 years and attracts millions of devotees to the banks of the Godavari River.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has outlined plans to significantly improve infrastructure along the riverbanks. Key initiatives include the development of major temples, construction of permanent Pushkar ghats, and enhanced facilities to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims.

During a high-level meeting at the Command Control Center, ministers and senior officials discussed strategies to ensure smooth logistics and avoid overcrowding during the festival.

Development of Pushkar Ghats

CM Reddy emphasized the construction of Pushkar ghats at 74 locations along the 560 km stretch of the river. These permanent structures aim to provide devotees with safe and organized access to holy bathing spots, while also improving the aesthetic and cultural appeal of the riverbanks.

The CM instructed the use of central government schemes to fund these initiatives, ensuring coordinated efforts between the Tourism, Irrigation, and Endowments departments. The focus is on sustainable and long-term improvements that will benefit both devotees and local communities.

Significance of Godavari Pushkaralu

The Godavari Pushkaralu is a spiritually significant event, celebrated once every 12 years when the river enters the zodiac sign of Leo (Simha Rashi). Devotees believe that taking a holy dip during the festival cleanses sins and brings blessings of prosperity and health.

The preparations underway signal Telangana’s commitment to hosting a safe, well-organized, and memorable Godavari Pushkaralu 2027, ensuring devotees experience the festival with ease and devotion.
