Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is on a three-day visit to India, marking his first foreign trip since assuming office. On Monday, he was welcomed in a ceremonial event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Dissanayake held productive discussions with Indian officials, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations in trade, investment, energy, and maritime security. The talks also covered Sri Lanka's domestic issues, including the Tamil community's demand for the implementation of the 13th Amendment for devolution of power. India reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka's economic recovery. Dissanayake is scheduled to attend a business event in Delhi and visit Bodh Gaya. The visit is seen as a step toward strengthening multi-faceted cooperation, especially in maritime security, amidst concerns over China’s military presence in the Indian Ocean.
