Yashasvi Jaiswal raises his bat after getting to his fifty at Hyderabad on Thursday.

Prior to the start of the India-England Test series at Hyderabad on Thursday, all the talk revolved around "Bazball" and whether the visitors' ultra aggressive approach would or wouldn't work on turning pitches in India.

As the opening day of the first Test came to a close, the watching public at the venue and at home realised that it had not worked, atleast in the first innings, as India's spinners shared eight out of the 10 wickets to dismiss England for 246 runs.

The entertainment for the decent-sized crowd at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, though, was yet to come. In his short Test career so far, Yashasvi Jaiswal has shown a penchant for batting aggressively and looking to take on the bowling at every opportunity that comes his way.

On Thursday, the Mumbai southpaw set the tone to India's reply by remaining unbeaten on 76 runs from 70 balls and taking his side to 119 for 1 in 23 overs at the close of play.

As Jaiswal set about his pyrotechnics in Hyderabad, "Jaisball" started to trend on social media as supporters marvelled at the free flowing strokeplay of the 22-year-old.

The left-hander opened his account with a flick for four off Mark Wood and made the most of the inexperience of Tom Hartley, by smacking him for two sixes in the following over.

It was Jaiswal's approach to spin that was very heartening to see, considering India are likely to play on slow, turning pitches for the entirety of the series.

He cover drove Hartley and the more experienced Jack Leach consistently, against the turn through the covers, and later picked a googly from Rehan Ahmed and drove him through the covers as well.

With England opting not to go with James Anderson for this Test, the pressure was already on the three spinners to deliver with the ball. With his attacking style of play from the outset, Jaiswal ensured that the spinners, especially Leach and Hartley, never settled into any rhythm.

While this pitch may not have crumbled just yet, Jaiswal's confidence in playing spin will offer him and the management the confidence that he could well be up for it, if sterner tests are presented later in the series.

While Jaiswal may have made his Test debut in the West Indies in July last year, the ongoing Test match in Hyderabad is his first Test match on home soil. By putting pressure on England in the final session of the opening day, he ensured that India were in the driver's seat at the end of proceedings.
