A Delhi couple’s pre-wedding shoot in Uttarakhand took a scary turn when they were almost swept away by the raging waters of the river Ganga.
Manas Kheda, 27, and Anjali Aneja, 25, had entered the river in Rishikesh when the water level was low. The couple had hoped to take memorable pre-wedding photographs against the backdrop of the majestic Ganga, but they got stuck in the middle of the river when the water level increased.
“When the man was rescued from the river, he was unconscious. After providing first aid to the couple, they were sent to a local hospital for treatment,” State disaster response force (SDRF) commandant Manikant Mishra told Times of India.
Mishra said the SDRF had received an emergency call on Thursday from the Beasi police check post in Rishikesh to check on a couple from Delhi who were drowning in the river. When a rescue team reached the area near Singtoli where the incident was reported, they saw the couple had almost been swept away.
The rescue team managed to pull them out. Mishra said their Delhi address could not be immediately ascertained as they “were in no position to speak much.”
“When the couple went into the river, there was little water. They could not anticipate that the level would rise so suddenly,” an SDRF personnel said.
