A black hoodie worn “on numerous occasions” by Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg in 2010 was recently sold for $15,875 (about Rs 14 lakh) at an auction in Los Angeles. Belonging to the brand Alternative, the garment frequently worn when the tech titan was named “Person of The Year” by Time Magazine, was estimated to sell at around $1,000 (about Rs 87,000), but a bidding war drove the price up.
As per a New York Post report, the new owner received a handwritten note from Zuckerberg that read: “One of my favorite old-school Facebook hoodies. I wore this all the time in the early days. It even has our original mission statement on the inside lining. Enjoy! — Mark Zuckerberg”.
According to the auction house, the Meta CEO had worn the hoodie "on numerous occasions during 2010, the same year that saw the release of the award-winning biographical drama The Social Network."
Other popular items sold at the auction included one of the signature bowties worn by Steve Jobs. It was sold for a whopping $35,750 (about Rs 31 crore) — 35 times more than the initial estimate of $1,000.
The Apple co-founder is said to have worn the green Wilkes Bashford brand bow tie with pink stripes on three occasions: two different photo shoots for a Macintosh computer launch in 1984, at a conference in Aspen in 1983, and an annual shareholder’s meeting in 1984.
Steve Jobs' letter on Kumbh Mela plan sold for Rs 4.32 crore
Steve Jobs's handwritten letter, offering a rare glimpse into his spiritual and poetic side, has made history as the first personal letter by Jobs to be auctioned, fetching an impressive US$500,312.50 (INR 4.32 crore), according to media reports.
Written on Jobs's 19th birthday, February 23, the letter was addressed to his childhood friend Tim Brown, just two years before he founded Apple with Steve Woznaik. In the single-page letter, Jobs reflects on Zen Buddhism and shares his dream of visiting India and Khumbh Mela, a revered Hindu pilgrimage and festival.
In the letter, Steve Jobs appears to be responding to a letter written by Brown. He appears pensive, and speaks about having “cried many times”. “I wish to go to India for the Kumbh Mela, which starts in April. I will be leaving sometime in March, not really certain yet,” he says. Jobs appears to be already heavily influenced by Hinduism, signing off his letter with a “Shanti, Steve Jobs”.
