In a series that tests the use of graphology in the hiring process, our expert analyses handwriting samples. Identities were kept from her - but we reveal this week's subject in Recruitment Diary.

At first glance this handwriting looks irregular in formation and with an air of naïve chaos. However, the writer has maintained a balance between creativity and legibility which suggests he is used to using his own initiative and superb powers of intuition to handle problems, as well as forging his own particular path through life.

The tall, stick-like figures of the individual letters denote intelligence and ambition and someone who has a wealth of theories and certainly an independent thinker. However, not all his ideas are practical and he is prone to getting carried away and then is just as capable of being overly critical of himself when a project is anything short of total success.

There is a slight tremulous and uncertain penmanship which reflects the writer's inner judgmental system. He is nervous, energetic and eager to be seen as diplomatic and fair. There is tension between his need and desire to use his inquiring mentality in a controlled and practical way but also to give free rein to his considerable creative thoughts. He dislikes boredom and is constantly looking for the next challenge and experience.

The heavy pressure of the pen on paper means he is keen to make an impression on those around him but at the same time he is self-reliant and tenacious. He can be a little opinionated at times and certainly stubborn. It is sometimes hard for others to keep up with his energy and vitality.

He will become 100 per cent involved in all that he does and outside the professional arena he enjoys life to the full. He tries hard to hide his inner anxiety and worries and for the most part his personality shows an upbeat and optimistic character.

The slant of the handwriting is generally upright and the overall size is large. Despite his enjoyment of social events and his strong communication skills, he is also sensitive and will hold a lot of emotional expression back and can even fear his own expressive responses. These traits make for an excellent leader and he will make an appeal to judgment rather than emotion in any argument, even if his judgment is based on intuition.

The space between the individual letters is relatively large, as is the space between the lines, although he has filled the page with his vibrant writing. There is a conflict between his need for space and caution when dealing with others but also his need for friendship and social activity.

The handwriting is quite slowly formed and the letter formations rounded and often disconnected. He is torn between his need to preserve what he already has but also his need to create new environments for his febrile mind.

A natural leader, he is more readily able to accept change on the home front or from his own decisions than he is from any "superior". Despite his need to be at the forefront of any organisation he has doubt and is self-critical. He is a perfectionist and can show great willpower when it comes to goals and plans.

The writer is an original thinker but within his own controlled and carefully thought-out manner. He may be outgoing but he chooses his words carefully and has ability as a lecturer or mentor with an excellent memory for faces, names, facts and ideas.

There is an intensity of controlled emotion and unabashed energy and enthusiasm at the core of this personality which allows him to stand out from the crowd.
