Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has been located in Malta following the Interpol red corner notice against him. A red corner notice from Interpol is meant to arrest and extradite the accused to the country where the alleged crime was committed. Sources have told CNN-IBN that he could be arrested soon by the Interpol.
The arrest will bring some respite to the Narendra Modi government which has had to face severe criticism and allegations of trying to save Lalit Modi. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje are, too, facing flak for trying to help Lalit Modi.
Enforcement Directorate had in July moved for a Interpol red corner notice against him on the basis of a non-bailable warrant (NBW) issues by a special court. Earlier in August some reports also emerged of Modi brokering a deal for Sahara to help sell off its properties.
