With the rising number of covid-19 cases in the country amid the second wave, the Education Ministry has cancelled the Class 10 exams while postponed the CBSE Class 12 board exam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 14 chaired a meeting with the education ministry to take this decision. The exams were originally slated to begin on May 4, 2021.
Apart from the CBSE board, many states have also postponed or cancelled their state board exams while some states have decided to conduct as per schedule.

Here is the complete list of states that have cancelled or postponed the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams:
Andhra Pradesh: The Andhra Pradesh government on April 23 said the Class 10 and intermediate examinations would be held as per schedule amid a demand by the Opposition parties to cancel or postpone them in view of the COVID-19 spread. At a high-level review meeting on the prevailing COVID situation, CM Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy asked the authorities to hold the examinations by following all protocols, PTI has reported.
Chhattisgarh: The Chhattisgarh Board of Secondary Education (CGBSE) on April 22 cancelled its Class 10 exams. The board also suspended its Class 12 examinations scheduled to commence from May 3, and a fresh time-table will be released once the COVID-19 situation improves.

Goa: The Goa government on April 21 announced the postponement of the upcoming 10th and 12th standard examinations of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. CM Pramod Sawant said that the board will inform students about the new dates 15 days in advance.
Maharashtra: Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad announced on April 20 that the state has decided to cancel the Class 10 board exams as the health and safety of students and teachers is their top priority. Earlier, both the exams were postponed but now this order remains only for the Class 12 exams. The new dates of the Class 12 board exams are yet to be announced.
Odisha: The Odisha government on April 21 announced the cancellation of the Class 10 board exam. The results will be published based on an objective criterion to be developed by the Board of Secondary Education. However, for class 12th the dates will be announced soon. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that all students of Class 9 & 11 in academic year 2020-21 will be prompted to the 10th and 12th standards respectively. They do not have to take any tests for this.
Karnataka: Karnataka Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar on April 20 said that the Class 10 (Secondary School Leaving Certificate - SSLC) board examination won't be cancelled or postponed and would be held as per already fixed schedule from June 21, 2021 to July 5, 2021. The minister appealed to all the students to keep studying for the upcoming exams, IANS has reported.
Nagaland: The state board has not postponed class 10 and 12 board exams 2021. Class 10 exams began on April 7 and will conclude on April 21, while class 12 exams started on April 6 and will end on April 29.
Manipur: The state board on April 19 postponed the Class 10 and 12 board exams 2021, considering the seriousness of the ever-increasing positive cases of COVID-19, PTI has reported.
Kerala: Despite concerns over increasing COVID-19 cases, the Kerala government on April 19 decided to proceed with the ongoing SSLC and Plus Two examinations in the state, adhering to strict health protocol and intense precautionary measures.
Haryana: The Haryana government on April 15 cancelled the class 10 board exams and decided to postpone the exams of class 12 amid the coronavirus pandemic outbreak. Haryana Education Minister Kanwar Pal said the result of class 10 will be declared on the basis of internal assessment of students.
Jammu & Kashmir: In view of rising COVID-19 cases,
Office of LG of Jammu and Kashmir on April 15 said that the ongoing Class 10 exams for remaining subjects have been cancelled and students would be promoted to Class 11 based on internal assessments while the ongoing Class 12 exams have been postponed.
Himachal Pradesh: The Himachal Pradesh government on April 14 postponed the ongoing state board exams for classes 10 and 12 in view of the rising Covid-19 cases, state education secretary Rajeev Sharma said. The education secretary also said that the undergraduate university examinations, due to start on April 17, have also been deferred. "The situation will be reviewed at the government level on May 1 and further directions will be issued accordingly," he added.
Rajasthan: The Rajasthan government on April 14 decided to postpone the classes 10 and 12. The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education, Ajmer was also directed to promote the students of classes 8, 9 and 10 to the next classes. The decisions were taken by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot after discussions with Education Minister Govind Singh Dotasra. Earlier, the government had announced a promotion for students of classes 1 to 7.
Madhya Pradesh: The Madhya Pradesh government has postponed the Class 10th and 12th board exams in the state. State's School Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said that the board exams will which were scheduled to be held from April 30, will now be conducted after May 30. Practical exams will now be held by May 15.
Punjab: Punjab CM Amarinder Singh on April 15 have decided to promote all Class 5, 8 & 10 students without examinations while the Class 12 exams have been postponed & will be conducted later once the situation improves.
Telangana: The Telangana government promoted 5,21,392 Class 10 (SSC) students without exams and postponed the Class 12 final exams amid rising coronavirus cases. While the Class 10 students will be evaluated on the basis of an objective criterion developed by the Telangana SSC board, a decision for Class 12 students will be taken in the first week of June. The govt Telangana has promoted all students from Class 1 to Class 10 after the cancellation of exams.
Gujarat: The Gujarat government on April 15 decided to postpone the Board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 and also announced mass promotion for all the rest of the classes in view of the COVID resurgence. The government will review the situation on May 1 and then come out with an updated schedule. The students appearing in Classes 10 and 12 examinations will be provided adequate time of at least 15 days prior to the exam schedule whenever it is announced, said the officials.
Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on February 25 had cancelled the Class 10 and Class 11 in the state for this year. As per the Times Now report, Tamil Nadu SSLC, HSE+1 Exam students would be promoted to their next class without examination. Also, class 9 annual exams have been cancelled.
Meanwhile, Bihar is the only state which has conducted the Class 10 and 12 exams and the results are also declared.
