Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Power, said that the governement is working to minimise the impact of coal price pooling. Speaking to CNBC TV18, he added that the coal ministry plans to act on this with the help of the finance minister, and is working to minimise its impact on tariffs.
Stating that he has ironed out many contentious issues on FSAs (fuel supply agreements) with the Coal Ministry, he said that there is a need for a commitment from Coal India on coal above 3,200 GCV.
He added that the minimum assured GCV was the only issue with Coal India now, with the company wanting to lower the minimum GCV threshold to 2,100. Also read: What is way forward for power discoms? Experts discuss
Talking about future plans, he said North Karanpura Project will be on stream in the 13th Plan, and discom viability would be the biggest focus area for the power ministry.
Though optimistic about working on a long-term solution, he said he doesn’t see the issue of low gas supply being resolved immediately.
Saying that the lowering of aggregate transmission and commercial (AT&C) losses is the key to improve the financial health of state electricity boards (SEB), he also said that CERC would give the final judgment on Tata Power and Adani PPAs (power purchase agreements).
He was confident of CCI being able to deliver faster project clearances.
