Today's Google doodle is for Argentinian writer, essayist, poet and translator, Jorge Luis Borges. He was born on August 24th, 1899 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After leaving Argentina for Spain for most of his developmental years, he came back to his native country in 1921 and started publishing poems and essays in surrealist literary journals. In 1961, he won the first International Publisher's Prize, the Prix Formentor. His most famous works include Ficciones (1944) and The Aleph (1949), which are collections of short stories filled with motifs like labyrinths, libraries, religion and God.

The doodle itself is a visual collection of a library, a common motif he uses. It has various parts of a library, including the external area, the staircases, the dome, a large window and an old man looking out. These various parts make up the alphabet that spell 'Google'. Jorge Luis Borges died on June 14, 1986 in Geneva, Switzerland.
