Intex set the ball rolling with the V.Show projector phone and now Micromax has jumped on the bandwagon. Their latest X40 packs in a mini-projector for watching movies on the go and comes bundled with a tripod, all this for just Rs. 4,999. The phone is available across India starting from today. Now, Intex’s offering was priced absurdly high and completely failed to deliver even average performance so I wonder how the X40 will fare given its ridiculously low pricing.

The multimedia phone comes with a host of bundled Java apps like Nimbuzz, Opera Mini, Snaptu, Mundu radio, etc, just like their other models. There’s also a multi-format document reader, dual-SIM functions, Bluetooth, expandable memory up to 4GB and FM Radio. The battery is a 1000mAh which is enough for regular use but I’m not sure it would give good mileage in projector mode. The 2.4-inch screen has a QVGA (240x320) resolution and comes with a 2MP camera and 80MB of internal memory. We’ll keep you posted on its performance once we get our hands on a review unit.
