Google doodles for Freddie Mercury

Google went all out on this Doodle. And without a doubt, they made it almost as fabulous as the person it's a tribute to. The Doodle starts as a collection of animated photographs of Freddie Mercury, with "Google" overlaid on the photos. There is a giant play sign in the middle of the Doodle. Once you click on it, the fun begins. It turns out to be a music video for Mercury's song, "Don't Stop Me Now". The video starts as a pan shot across the photographs and Google logo and turns into an animated Queen concert. The lyrics are closed captioned on the video and you can choose to turn them on or off in the play bar. You can also pause, rewind or fast forward the video as you like. The Google logo is set as a backdrop on the stage of the animated concert. The video then takes the Freddie Mercury figure into a fantasy world where he is flying in the sky and riding on the tiger. We are taken back to the concert scene for the end of the song.

Freddie Mercury was born Farrokh Bulsara on the 5th of September, 1946 in Stone Town, Zanzibar. He is best known as being lead vocalist for British band, Queen. He was a singer and song writer. He spent the bulk of his childhood in India. He went to St. Peter's School at the age of 8 and completed his education at St. Mary's school. When he was 17, he moved with his family to the United Kingdom. In 1970, he, Brian May and Roger Taylor formed the band, Queen. They were best known for their songs, "Bohemian Rapsody", "We Will Rock You", "Don't Stop Me Now" and countless others. After having been diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, Mercury died on the 24th of November, 1991 from bronchial pneumonia resulting from AIDS. Mercury has had a number of tributes dedicated to him, including a statue of him on Lake Geneva in Switzerland and a British stamp, created for the Millenium stamp series.
